CV. Nusantara Agro Bakula had Officially Registered Itself as Official User of Geographical Indication Products to the Indonesian DGIP, Sub Directorate for Geographical Indication
Our Company had Concluded MoU with Badan Pengelolaan, Pengembangan dan Pemasaran Lada (BP3L) Bangka Belitung Province
After managing a good communication with Badan Pengelolaan, Pengembangan dan Pemasaran Lada (BP3L) Bangka Belitung Province as the official right holder of the GI Rights of Muntok White Pepper, CV. Nusantara Agro Bakula continued the process by concluding an agreement with BP3L. This MoU is the basis to proceed to an administrative step to the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DGIP), Directorate of Trademark and Geographical Indication. CV. Nusantara Agro Bakula will be the official User for GI Products as Manufacturer, Seller and Exporter of GI-Based Product: Muntok White Pepper.
Said registration had been done by CV. Nusantara Agro Bakula as a gesture of appreciation towards the rights of Muntok White Pepper farmers as the registered right holders in the Book of Muntok White Pepper GI (See Here), as well as a form of our active participation to disseminate the GI concept to the public. This also a form of dissemination effort from our company regarding the rightful use of National GIs Logo given by the Indonesian DGIP as well as the GIs Product Logo as the guarantee to the consumers on the originality of our raw material that is used in the manufacturing process.
We had expressed our highest appreciation towards the Directorate of Trademark and Geographica Indication, Indonesian DGIP, Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia, especially for the technical support given by the Deputy of Geographical Indications and his staffs who have been very supportive along the process, including their effort towards the dissemination and management process of GIs potential in Indonesia since 2007. Moreover, such implementation and management of GIs potential has been a paramount for the development and utilization of potential GI-based products in Indonesia that will be an additional point to support the economic growth of our country.
By registering our company, CV. Nusantara Agro Bakula name will be added into the Annexe of the GI Book of Muntok White Pepper after the administrative process in the Indonesian DGIP has been announced. Nevertheless, through our consultative process with the Sub-Directorate of Geographical Indication, our company has obtained the rightful position to announce the position of ourselves as Official User for Muntok White Pepper based on the concluded MoU with the BP3L. However, in regards to the addition of National GIs Logo onto our label, there will be an update process that needs to be done in the Indonesian FDA portal.
“GIs Hero” Award for Directorate of Trademark and Geographical Indication, Indonesian DGIP, Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia and BP3L Bangka Belitung Province
Due to the fact that our Founder is a GIs enthusiast who obtained an LLM from his study in Advanced Master on Intellectual Property and Knowledge Management (IPKM), Faculty of Law Maastricht University, Netherlands, we are fully aware that the frontline that will determine the successfulness of GIs development in Indonesia is placed on the back of Directorate of Trademark and Geographical Indication. In this regard, the main personnel who are in charge for such actions would be Deputy for GIs Fajar Sulaeman Taman, S. Sos., M. Si., M.IPLaw and his staffs.
Our founder decided to initiate an Award that will be implemented continuously in the future to the GIs “heroes” who have dedicated their life to disseminate, manage, protect and promote GIs concept in Indonesia. We chose the Director for Trademark and Geographical Indication, Fathulrachman, SH, MM as the leader of the Directorate who has relentlessly dedicated his life on GIs development in Indonesia.
GI Hero Award has also been awarded to the Sub Directorate of Geographical Indication. Section Head for GIs Examiner, Saky Septiono, SH, M.Si who represented the Deputy for Geographical Indications, for their relentless effort in finding more and more GIs potential in every corner of this widely-spread archipelago known as Indonesia. Another award has also been awarded to Chief of BP3L Bangka Belitung Province, Zainal Arifin. This award has been awarded for the Institution who has consistently maintained and done every possible effort to protect and promote Muntok White Pepper product as a GI.

This is exactly what our government expected, because we, as regulator, would highly appreciate active participation by industry sectors in Indonesia to implement GI protection concept to ensure the good growth rate of GIs products in Indonesia.” said the Director for Trademark and GIs during our meeting on 24 January 2019 in Indonesian DGIP Office at Rasuna Said Street, Jakarta.
Our Commissioner expressed the utmost appreciation for the relentless effort that has been given by Mr. Fathulrachman and his staffs to administer and motivate our local people in Indonesia who has potential GI commodities. Our widely-spread region and the richness of its land are plus points but also challenges at the same time for the government to administer GI potentials in our country. Latest data has shown that more than 60 products had been registered as GIs in Indonesia.
“Protection for GI-based products are very important, but we believe that the fight is not over yet. Such products shall be implemented by Downstream Industries in Indonesia and to be manufactured as end products, under the Trademark of Indonesia. They, then, need to be actively promoted to the domestic and international market through active trade and export practices. This is the core of our business.” said our Commissioner during our meeting with the Director for Trademark and Geographical Indications.
After such process, the next step that will be our priority in 2019 working program of the company is the relentless effort together with Sub Directorate of Trademark and GIs, and also with other Government Institution such as Free Trade Agreement (FTA) Centre, Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia to promote the mechanism of correct GIs use to the public of Indonesia, Downstream Industries and to the international communities through expo, cooperation with Indonesian Embassies all over the world including active trading and export practices.
“We admitted that our Government has given great attention and facilitative measures towards SMEs that is trying to elevate themselves and entering export practices.” said our Commissioner to the Trademark and GIs Director in his office.
We hope that GI Hero Award will be continued to be awarded to many stakeholders who have dedicated their life to protect and maintain our GIs potential in Indonesia.
